A Task for Everyone

The plan for this weekend is to resume our renovation of Grace Cottage.

Working on the dining room and master bedroom this weekend.

I have purchased more paint including a gallon of mis-mixed green for tinting, a gallon of generic white for tinting, and a gallon of Simply White in semi-gloss for all the trim.

The brown trim in the living room has already been primed.

I believe that painting all the trim the same white color will make the entire house brighter and more cohesive.  Since the living room has been freshly painted we will paint that trim also.

There’s a lot of brown in this house. A LOT!!!

The order of painting in the dining room is important because I plan to paper the upper part of the walls.  The trim that touches the wallpaper should be primed and painted first, then the ceiling.  I can start to hang paper when those 2 items are finished so I won’t have to worry about dripping paint on beautiful new paper which is NOT prepasted and but does have a vinyl surface.

Brown paneling throughout the house is dreary.

The dark paneled bottom of the dining room wall should be primed with tinted primer before being painted Surf Green.

Spindle painting will be time consuming.

While we’re  working on the dining room the dreaded spindles will be primed then painted Simply White.

The master bedroom will be a cool beachy blue with green undertones.

The sink and toilet in the half-bath  are close to the color Minor Blue by Sherwin-Williams.

In addition to work on the dining room and finishing up the living room I would like to mix some paint for the master bedroom and possibly the ensuite powder room which has no windows.  I’m going for a shade something like Woodlawn Blue or Sea Salt.

The ceiling beams in the master bedroom will take a while to paint.

The first item of painting in the already-primed master bedroom is to cover the exposed beams with trim paint — Simply White.

A fresh looking ceiling.

We’re going for a look like the above photo.

Enclosed porch on the driveway side. There will be a lot of painting for a small space that runs the width of the house.

If there’s any primer remaining the paneling in the entrance porch can be primed.  This room will probably become the television watching space.

Here’s the list:

  1.  Prime and paint dining room trim
  2. Paint dining room ceiling
  3. Paint spindles
  4. Paper dining room
  5. Paint trim in living room
  6. Paint trim in master bedroom
  7. Prime porch
  8. Mix bedroom and powder room paint
  9. Measure bathtub
  10. Consider removing closet in bathroom
  11. Measure bathroom for green board and cement board
  12. Measure vanity for basket

We’ll be busy.

Jo
