Don’t Forget Intermission

We showed Casablanca in our home to a dozen guests some of whom arrived in 1940’s attire which was requested on the invitation with the phrase “Character Attire Encouraged”.

I’m hoping guests will come as characters in the movie — Charlie, of course, is Rick.

Charlie and I dressed up as the characters Rick and Ilsa respectively.

Guess who I dressed up as?

Charlie also doubled as the piano player and treated us to As Time Goes By.  (“If she can stand it, so can I.”)

I’ve seen Casablanca dozens of times.

We started the movie after everyone arrived.  The running time is 102 minutes.

We stopped the movie at the mid-point when Rick (Humphrey Bogart) is bereft.

Fifty-one minutes into the movie, just after Ilsa leaves Rick’s room, there is a blackout on the screen.  It is at that point we took a 10-minute intermission to refresh our plates and drinks.

We served lots of snacks.

I had created a special dessert which everyone was happy to eat.  Then we finished watching the classic movie.

So much fun.
