June 2020: Goals Scored

In the month of June we tried to put some of the contagion behind us and to have a fresh outlook.  Flowers and vegetables are growing in the yard.  We made progress on our to do list. And we had an outing albeit with facemasks.

  1. Visit the Eastern shore of Maryland.  Our visit to the Eastern Shore was a flying trip in a hot air balloon which we enjoyed immensely.

Our hot air balloon ride was magical.

The flight was approximately an hour in which time we stood in a large wicker basket while floating over trees, fields, and farms.

  2.  Read a book: The River Bank (Sequel to The Wind in the Willows)  I’ve read this simple, entertaining book after just finishing The Wind in the Willows. It was given me by a friend who had read a positive review in the Washington Post.  Her inscription to me began: “To Miss H.M.” H.M. stands for “high maintenance,” an attribute to which I ascribe.  I believe we are all H.M. in our own ways.
  3.  Repair and touch-up the master bathroom.  This little finish was long overdue.  We were almost so used to it that we barely saw it anymore.  Now it’s finished.

    Before

    After

  4. Trim remaining doors with casing including attic access.

    Before

    After

  5.  See a movie. Or continue to watch National Theatre At Home.  I’ve seen A Streetcar Named Desire, This House, Coriolanus, and The Madness of George III.
  6.  Plant:  move azaleas.  With Charlie’s help 5 azalea pants have been moved the east lawn of the house.

Five azaleas are clumped in front of blue hydrangeas.

  7.  Stain the shed.  Thanks to Sug’s industriousness the shed has been stained and the door repainted.

    Before

    After

  8.  Remove one item or box from conservatory closet .  I went into the closet and removed five boxes, rearranged the chairs that I store there, and hauled pieces of cement board down to the shed.

Sheet music overwhelms our house but we can never find the piece we want when we want it.

I’m ultimately trying to make a place for Charlie to organize his music instead of piling it on the floor in the living room.

  9.  Clear up all trim in upstairs hall.

    Before

Trim has cluttered this hall for years.

    After

    It is finally clear.

  10.  Reschedule (postponed) trips.

Hoping the cruise is not canceled again.

I have rescheduled our cruise from Baltimore to Bermuda for early in September of this year.  It has already been canceled once. Still hoping to go.

Charlie is looking forward to a fast ride.

And Charlie has rescheduled his NASCAR ride-along which has been postponed twice to date.  And I have wanted to ride in a hot air balloon so we have made that trip over the Chesapeake Bay.

  11. Pick a word to focus on for the month. My word: VIGOR.
  12. Write a goal list for July.
